Understanding the Human Genome with Debian
How a 1,500 CPU Debian cluster is being used in the Sanger Institute to perform cutting edge genome and disease research
The Sanger Institute is a charity-funded scientific research organisation in the UK. We were the single largest contributor to the public human genome project. We use Open Source tools in general, and Debian in particular, on a >1500 processor cluster to further understanding of the human and other genomes, and the code and knowledge obtained is given away with no restrictions for the whole world's benefit. This talk will explain some of the technical problems and successes we have had in using Debian on this scale.
