Ligusk: Gentoo as a meta-distribution or making a custom Debian like distribution.
An attempt to create a customized Debian-ish distribution generator.
Ligusk uses Gentoo's portage, a source based package management system, to generate and maintain a set of .deb packages, tuned for some specific environment by compiling them with a specifiable set of options and CFLAGS. This way Ligusk creates specialized GNU/Linux distributions defined by simple profiles. These distributions can then be deployed and managed by the standard set of tools which any Debian based or Debian like distribution uses.
In this talk the following topics will be discussed:
- how Gentoo systems are defined, maintained, and work;
- the speaker's interpretation of the mapping between Gentoo's and Debian's ways of doing things;
- an overview on Ligusk's design and design decisions.
