The Policy and RC bug goulash
Technical policy, release policy, developers reference, lintian/linda: How do these fit?
There are a number of documents and tools related to packaging software in Debian, which lie on different ponits along the spectrum of mandatory standards and suggested style tips. This talk talks about the differences in the goals of the various documents and tools, and will go into the upcoming update of the technical policy update process, and how people can contribute.
There has been some confusion about the distinction and differences between technical policy, release policies, lintian/linda, and the developers reference. There was also some question about what exactly is the relationship between policy violations and release critical bugs, and why there needs to be two related but differing sets of rules.
Additionally, there around the time that the policy team was re-delegated, a discussion started about revamping the policy update process. This talk will bring in the current thinking on the issue, and the informal meeting style should allow for a discussion of the proposed process.
