Resurrecting "cruft"
A tool for cleaning up the system and finding packaging bugs
"cruft" is a mostly forgotten tool for finding cruft on a system. This event is an attempt to let it gain more interest by presenting its history, current status and possible future developments.
The subject of this event is the package "cruft", written in 1998 by Anthony Towns as a tool for verifying filesystem contents against various rules of what should be present or not. The event is meant to provide information on its current status and hopefully gain some interest.
At the beginning I will give a short presentation on the history and current status of the package, as well as some ideas which came up during its development. The second part will hopefully be a discussion on future development and integrating it into package management tools.
