An Inside Look at the Debian Project
A brief history of the Debian project and description of how the key elements of the project evolved and work today, from the perspective of someone who has been involved nearly since the beginning.
The Debian Project is an association of individuals who have made common cause to create a free operating system. The primary goal of this talk is to explain how that happened, identifying key milestones in the project's history that resulted in the foundational documents and key processes that led to the project we know today. Key elements that make Debian different from other operating system distributions and other large free software projects will also be discussed. The talk will conclude with information on how anyone can join the Debian project and help with our continuing work, and some thoughts about what the future may hold for Debian.
