Free as in Market: the misunderstood entanglement of ethics, software and profits

In the late nineties, a new term was coined to describe Free Software. Open Source emphasised pragmatism and methodologies, as opposed to ethics and principles. It was designed to strip Free Software of its "moralistic" garb, and redress it in a business suit.

It might come as a surprise, thefore, that Free Software holds the key to market success; proprietary software and Open Source's fair-weather friends reveal themselves increasingly hostile to the true interests of business.
